Sugba Lagoon: Temporarily Closed for Annual Environmental Rehabilitation in Siargao

BUTUAN CITY – For its yearly environmental rehabilitation, Sugba Lagoon, a renowned tourist attraction located in the town of Carmen on Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte province, will be temporarily inaccessible to visitors for a month.

The temporary closure of this highly sought-after destination in Siargao is set to begin this Wednesday.

Del Carmen's local government unit (LGU) announced the temporary closure in accordance with Municipal Ordinance No. 045, designating 32 days as an annual tourist holiday to facilitate environmental recovery and lagoon rehabilitation, as stated in a Tuesday press release.

Additionally, repairs to certain tourism facilities are planned during this month-long hiatus, as mentioned by the LGU.

This closure aims to promote the rejuvenation of the lagoon's ecosystem, offering a respite for the local flora and fauna.

The LGU is encouraging tourists, both local and domestic, to explore alternative destinations, such as the islets, beaches, and the renowned Mangrove Forest Site in Del Carmen. (PNA)
