Baguio City Braces for Further Temperature Drop Until February's End

BAGUIO CITY – The synoptic station of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in this area has issued a warning about a further decline in temperature expected until the end of February.

Temperature readings in the city have been ranging from 15 to 25.2 degrees Celsius from January 1 to 7, with a similar forecast extending from January 8 to 12.

Mar Santos, the weather observer at the PAGASA-Baguio synoptic station, mentioned in a Monday interview that there is a possibility of the temperature dropping even more until the conclusion of February. She explained that this cold weather is typical during this season, and the drop in temperature is attributed to the northeast monsoon, primarily caused by winds from Siberia, which experiences winter at this time of the year.

The lowest temperature recorded in Baguio in 2023 was 10 degrees Celsius on February 16. Historical data indicates that the lowest temperature in the Summer Capital was 6.3 degrees Celsius on January 18, 1961. (PNA)
