Sagada Tourism Soars: Enhanced Infrastructure and Offerings Draw Record Visitors in 2023

BAGUIO CITY – Enhanced public transportation, upgraded facilities, and diverse culinary options have contributed to the surge in tourism arrivals in Sagada, Mountain Province.

Between January 1 and November 30, 2023, tourist numbers in Sagada soared to 108,059, a significant increase from 48,761 for the entire year of 2022. The December data is still being compiled.

Before the pandemic in 2019, Sagada welcomed 144,000 tourists. Gloria Pilamon-Langbayan, Sagada Tourism Officer, expressed optimism about the town's ability to attract visitors once again.

In a phone interview on Friday, Langbayan stated, "We are positive Sagada is drawing people back," emphasizing that tourism stakeholders continually enhance their offerings to ensure visitors' convenience.

To ease traffic congestion, tricycles, referred to as "tuk-tuk," serve as public transportation, encouraging tourists to leave their vehicles at hotels and other accommodations. Designated parking areas have also been established to prevent road blockages on the town’s two-lane roads.

Langbayan highlighted improvements in hotel facilities and the food served, emphasizing health and safety standards compliance. She noted, "Even the hotel facilities and the food they serve have been improved for health and safety, aside from keeping up with the standards."

Despite lacking official statistics for the recent holiday season, Langbayan mentioned a noticeable influx of tourists. Sagada's appealing combination of chilly weather and scenic landscapes continues to attract both local and foreign tourists alike. (PNA)
