COTABATO CITY – In a drug sting operation conducted on Friday night in front of a local food chain, anti-narcotics agents apprehended a police officer and his female accomplice involved in a PHP4 million “shabu” transaction.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM) identified the detained individuals as Staff Sgt. Mujeeb Bitayo Sepi from the Sultan Kudarat Municipal Police Station in Maguindanao del Norte, and his associate, Farida Alim Alfonso.
According to Gil Cesario P. Castro, PDEA-BARMM director, "The suspects agreed to sell the prohibited substance to an undercover PDEA agent at 7 p.m. along Quezon Avenue in this city."
Following the transaction, a joint team of PDEA agents, city police operatives, and 5th Marine Battalion Landing Team troopers arrested the duo. The suspected shabu, valued at PHP4 million and packaged in 12 large plastic sachets, was seized, along with a pistol and mobile phones.
Currently held at the PDEA custodial facility, the suspects await formal charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
This drug bust marks the second significant operation by PDEA-BARMM since December 29, when agents seized 500 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP3.4 million from a major drug peddler in Panamao, Sulu, identified as Reximar Muhammad, 30, of Patikul, Sulu.
