President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s upcoming visit to Germany has been confirmed for March 12, following the announcement made during a courtesy call at Malacañan Palace by German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. The President mentioned that his office, in coordination with the German Embassy in Manila, has finalized the arrangements for the visit.
In discussions with Baerbock, Marcos expressed his optimism about the positive outcomes of the visit, anticipating developments in bilateral relations between the Philippines and Germany. He stated, "I'm sure that after the visit to Berlin, many things will develop. We will be requiring your presence here more and more.
Baerbock's official visit to the Philippines, part of her broader travel itinerary covering the Middle East and Southeast Asia, was initiated upon the invitation of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo. The Philippines and Germany have maintained diplomatic relations since October 8, 1954.
In 2022, Germany stood as the Philippines’ 12th largest trading partner, ranking 10th in exports and 15th in imports. The total trade between the two countries amounted to USD4.7 billion, with exports reaching USD2.8 billion and imports totaling USD1.9 billion. Germany continues to hold its position as the Philippines’ leading trading partner within the European Union.
