Mayor Rama Issues Strict Orders for Enhanced Security Measures Ahead of Sinulog Festival in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – Mayor Michael Rama issued strict directives on Wednesday for law enforcement agencies to rigorously enforce ordinances aimed at maintaining order and preventing crimes in anticipation of the upcoming Sinulog celebration.

Addressing reporters, Rama emphasized the need for collaboration among various enforcement entities, including the Philippine National Police, barangay officials, barangay peacekeeping action teams (BPAT), traffic operations, and all concerned parties, to ensure the effective implementation of city ordinances.

Furthermore, Rama mandated the removal of illegal parking and unauthorized vendors from all roads.

Meanwhile, the city council has yet to deliberate on a proposal advocating for a city-wide curfew, with proponents suggesting that such measures could serve as a deterrent to criminal activities.

In response to recent incidents of robberies, including an incident involving two women in Barangay Apas, Cebu City police deputy director Lt. Col. Janet Rafter stated that investigations are underway. She mentioned ongoing operations to apprehend the suspects, noting that one of them has been identified through CCTV footage. Rafter added that the victims have filed complaints, and efforts are being made to ensure the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. (PNA)
