BUTUAN CITY – Over the weekend, the 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3SFBn) reported that three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered in Liang town, Surigao del Sur province, due to intensified military operations.
In an official statement on Monday, the 3SFBn disclosed that the trio turned themselves in on Saturday in Barangay St. Christine after a series of successful operations by government troops.
Facing mounting pressure, "The three were left with no other choice but to turn themselves in to the Philippine Army," stated the 3SFBn.
The surrendering individuals, namely Alberto Perez Pañabe, Brian Ruadil Bulagao, and Junmar Alameda Rivas, were associated with the NPA Sub-Regional Committee Southland under the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee. Upon surrender, they handed over an M203 rifle, an M16 rifle, an AK-47 rifle, and ammunition.
Lt. Col. Paulo Baylon, the 3SFBn commander, expressed gratitude for the support of residents who shared valuable intelligence information, aiding government forces in locating the remaining NPA rebels.
The surrenderers are currently undergoing necessary documentation to access government programs and services, as announced by Baylon. (PNA)
