Iloilo City Allocates PHP14 Million for Calamity Preparedness: Food and Non-Food Items Stocked

ILOILO CITY – The municipal government has set aside PHP14 million for the procurement of both food and non-food items in preparation for potential calamities this year.

Teresa Gelogo, head of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), mentioned on Tuesday that her office has allocated PHP5 million for food items and PHP2 million for non-food items. An additional PHP5 million for food and PHP2 million for non-food items have been provided by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Augmentation support is also available from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as needed.

In the previous year, the city government utilized PHP5.996 million to purchase food and non-food items. Additionally, PHP6.877 million was released to assist families affected by fire, flood, typhoon, and tornado.

Gelogo discussed the potential use of the regional evacuation center in Barangay Sooc Arevalo with CDRRM officer Donna Magno in case of families displaced by calamities this year.

During their meeting last month, the CDRRM council approved the local disaster risk reduction and management (LDRRM) fund annual investment plan for 2024. This plan includes a PHP10 million allocation for improving the regional evacuation center and PHP10.8 million for supplies, materials, stockpiling of food and non-food items, as well as meals during operations.
