DSWD-13 Provides Timely Assistance: Augmentation of Family Food Packs and Cash-for-Work in Caraga Region


 BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) took swift action before the close of 2023, delivering essential family food packs (FFPs) as augmentation to local government units (LGUs) in Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands, areas severely affected by Tropical Storm (TS) Kabayan in December.

According to the DSWD-13's report on Wednesday, a total of 15,956 FFPs were provided as support to LGUs by the end of December last year, specifically targeting families impacted by TS Kabayan. The storm made landfall in portions of Caraga on December 18, particularly affecting Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands.

In Surigao del Sur, the distribution included 1,401 FFPs in Bayabas, 1,794 in Cagwait, 2,090 in Cantilan, 774 in Carmen, 4,387 in Lianga, 3,320 in San Agustin, and 2,035 in Tago. Additionally, 155 FFPs were augmented in Libjo, Dinagat Islands as of December last year.

DSWD-13 also reported the disbursement of PHP7.6 million in payments to 2,160 families in Socorro, Surigao del Norte, through the Cash-for-Work (CFW) program under Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) in December. The CFW beneficiaries engaged in various activities, including declogging canals, clean-up drives, tree planting, and road clearing in Socorro. (PNA)
