CEBU CITY – The leader of the Roman Catholic Church in Cebu, Archbishop Jose Palma, delivered a New Year's message on Sunday, encouraging the faithful to draw lessons from the past year and embrace hope with gratitude as they welcome 2024.
In his message, Archbishop Palma urged believers to apply the insights gained in 2023 to make the upcoming year more manageable. He emphasized the importance of commencing the new year with wisdom derived from personal experiences. Archbishop Palma expressed confidence in facing the future without fear, citing the presence of Emmanuel, and encouraged individuals to trust in God, who holds the future and has positive plans for everyone's lives.
Highlighting that the new year coincides with a celebration of the Virgin Mary, the mother of God, the 73-year-old prelate called on the 4.6 million baptized Catholics in the Archdiocese of Cebu to turn to the Virgin Mary in prayer.
