CEBU CITY – A department store restaurant in Talisay City experienced a fire on Sunday morning, resulting in over PHP8 million worth of damages.
The fire ignited at 9:55 a.m. and rapidly escalated to a second alarm within 10 minutes, according to Talisay City Fire Officer 2 Mar Dee Auxtero. Firefighters from neighboring Cebu City and Minglanilla town provided assistance, bringing the situation under control 40 minutes later. By 10:46 a.m., the fire was officially extinguished, with no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
In a separate incident at 5 a.m., a residential area in Barangay Apas was also affected by a fire. Three houses were entirely engulfed in flames, while four others suffered partial damage, resulting in an estimated PHP1.5 million in losses. Six families and 18 individuals were displaced, and a 23-year-old resident, Benjie Sevilla, sustained first-degree burns on his back and left arm while attempting to salvage belongings from his house.
Initial findings suggest that the fire in the residential area originated from a 500-square-meter establishment. (PNA)
