CEBU CITY – A police spokesperson announced on Saturday that more than 1,000 security personnel are set to oversee the “Sinulog sa Lalawigan” street dance and the grand finale at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Colonel Percival Zorilla, the head of the Cebu provincial police, provided assurance regarding the safety of attendees observing the procession on January 14.
Zorilla stated, “To ensure safety, we are mobilizing a total of 1,110 security officers from the PNP (Philippine National Police), AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), Coast Guard, and auxiliary forces. They will be stationed along the 1.85-kilometer street dance route and inside the Cebu City Sports Center.”
A central command post will be established near the Cebu Capitol, supported by 18 trained K-9 units.
The event will feature 18 groups from various parts of Cebu province, including Cebu City, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, participating in both the street dance contest and the main event.
To accommodate the festivities, the Cebu City Traffic Office will arrange alternative routes for both private and public transportation, as the vicinity will be off-limits to vehicular traffic.
Dance troupes from Madridejos in Bantayan Island, as well as Poro and Tudela in the Camotes Islands, will ferry their performers to the mainland using vessels provided by the Coast Guard and Navy. (PNA)
