DAVAO CITY – With the onset of the new year, the city government is urging residents to uphold road discipline and community safety by following a set of eight rules.
Dabawenyos are reminded to utilize pedestrian lanes for safe street crossing to avoid facing penalties for jaywalking, as outlined in the Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code of Davao City. Additionally, the public is encouraged to use overpasses to ensure secure road crossings, as stated in a recent statement by the city government.
The proper parking of vehicles in designated areas is emphasized to prevent inconvenience to fellow motorists and to maintain safe sidewalks for pedestrians.
The fourth rule highlights adherence to the "don't drink and drive" policy under the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Law (RA 10586), while the fifth rule pertains to compliance with the city’s Speed Limit Ordinance.
For community safety, Dabawenyos are urged to practice responsible waste disposal in assigned areas. The statement stresses the importance of avoiding littering and disposing of waste only in designated garbage cans, aligning with the locality’s Mosquito-Borne Viral Disease Prevention Program to prevent dengue.
Tomas Ababon, the city health office in-charge, emphasized in an interview on Thursday, "If our environment is clean, we can lessen bacteria. Also, if our environment is clean, we will not have open containers which can be a breeding place for mosquitoes."
Finally, residents are encouraged to adhere to the Anti-Nuisance Ordinance, which restricts loud noise until 10 p.m. (PNA).
