MAKILALA, North Cotabato – Local Government Condemns Ambush and Killing of Indigenous People's Affairs Officer
The local government strongly denounces the ambush-slay of an Indigenous People's (IP) affairs desk officer that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Makilala, North Cotabato.
Mayor Armando Quibod expressed his condemnation in a statement released on Friday, stating, "We strongly condemn the killing of a true servant of the people. Surely, we cannot achieve peace and fairness if justice and the life of our fellow will be put on our hands."
Mayor Quibod has directed the local police to investigate the incident that led to the death of Jerry “Boyet” Loyola, the town’s IP desk officer.
Jerry Loyola, a resident of Barangay Kisante, was riding his motorbike along the national highway of Barangay Taluntalunan around 5 p.m. when he was followed and shot by unidentified gunmen riding in tandem on a motorcycle.
The assailants took Loyola’s motorbike, which was later found abandoned beside the highway in Barangay San Vicente after it ran out of gasoline.
Lt. Col. Britz Sales, the town police chief, has assured the thorough investigation of all possible motives behind the killing. (PNA)
