DOLE-Negros Oriental Empowers Communities with PHP266 Million TUPAD Funds in 2023

 

DUMAGUETE CITY – In 2023, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Negros Oriental disbursed nearly PHP266 million for its Tulong Panghanapbuhay Sa Ating Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, benefiting close to 50,000 individuals and groups, according to DOLE-Negros Oriental chief Ma. Teresa Tanquiamco.

The breakdown of TUPAD funds distribution is as follows: 1st District – PHP75,952,369 with 11,099 beneficiaries; 2nd District – PHP128,181,551 with 22,399 beneficiaries; 3rd District – PHP44,217,468 with 9,048 beneficiaries; and provincial government level – PHP17,620,260 with 716 beneficiaries.

TUPAD offers a 10-day temporary employment program for individuals recommended by local government units (LGUs), focusing on tasks like street sweeping and canal cleaning.

In addition to TUPAD, the DOLE-Negros Oriental field office allocated over PHP47.7 million to support livelihood assistance programs, benefiting 2,000 recipients.

Various projects and programs funded by DOLE in Negros Oriental in the previous year encompassed initiatives such as micro-ice plants, post-coffee harvest facilities, biomass shredders, fishing supplies, motorized fishing boats, mat weaving, chicken egg-layering, Nego-Kart, cosmetology, and broiler chicken production.

Targeting diverse beneficiaries including fisherfolk, farmers, tricycle drivers’ associations, parents of child laborers, youth organizations, and former rebels, Tanquiamco highlighted the successful utilization of the allocated funds last year. Looking ahead, she expressed anticipation for the 2024 budget to extend further assistance to indigents and other qualified constituents. (PNA)
