As part of the “Bata ang Ona sa Negros (Child First in Negros)” initiative, learners from 26 public elementary schools in Negros Occidental have received 1,076 learning tablets from the provincial government to enhance their access to online learning resources. Implemented under Project BONG, the distribution took place in Pulupandan, San Enrique, and Valladolid towns, benefiting approximately 5,197 learners in separate ceremonies
DepEd Negros Occidental Schools Division expressed gratitude for the strong partnership with the provincial government in advancing quality education for Negrense learners. According to Ian Arnold Arnaez, a spokesperson for DepEd Negros Occidental, the tablets distributed will greatly assist in assessing and improving the numeracy and literacy skills of public school learners.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, leading the distribution efforts in the three municipalities, emphasized the importance of ensuring that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the modern world. Mayors Jilson Tubillara of San Enrique, Enrique Miravalles of Valladolid, Miguel Peña of Pulupandan, and DepEd Negros Occidental Schools Division Superintendent Anthony Liobet joined Lacson during the distribution ceremonies.
Project BONG, named after Governor Lacson's nickname, is a collaborative effort involving the Provincial School Board, local government units, and DepEd Negros Occidental Schools Division. The project aims to address educational challenges, focusing on strengthening numeracy skills, fostering literacy, engaging students through interactive activities, and empowering teachers.
Governor Lacson highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation among stakeholders, emphasizing that education is everyone's business. Superintendent Liobet encouraged the learners, stating, "We want to help you take on the challenges that come your way and give you all the tools you need to become the smart persons you are meant to be.
The recipients, coming from Pulupandan and San Enrique with nine school districts each, and Valladolid with eight, mark another step forward for Project BONG. In 2022, the project benefited 1,439 pupils in Cauayan town, and in 2023, learners in Manapla town received 850 tablets. (PNA)
