In an effort to combat the production, distribution, and sale of banned and hazardous firecracker products, authorities conducted a thorough inspection of the firecracker zone in Barangay Turo, Bocaue, known for its vibrant fireworks industry. Led by Police Regional Office 3 regional director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., Bulacan provincial director Col. Relly Arnedo, and Bocaue Vice Mayor Sherwin Tugna, the inspection focused on checking permits, licenses, and firecracker warehouses in the area.
The intensified scrutiny aims to identify potential loopholes in the campaign against illegal fireworks and develop strategies to curb the proliferation of prohibited firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials. The initiative aligns with Republic Act 7183, which regulates the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.
Director Hidalgo emphasized the importance of public cooperation in avoiding illegal firecrackers, listing specific examples such as Piccolo, Watusi, Giant Whistle Bomb, Giant Bawang, Large Judas Belt, super Lolo/Thunder Lolo, Atomic Bomb, Atomic Big Triangulo, Pillbox, Boga, Kwiton, Goodbye Earth, Goodbye Bading, Hello Columbia, Coke-in-Can, Kabasi, Og, and other unlabeled and imported firecrackers.
He urged the public to refrain from supporting and patronizing illegal firecrackers, emphasizing the goal of achieving zero casualties not only during the Christmas and New Year celebrations but in all aspects related to criminal activities.
Colonel Arnedo outlined the penalties for those caught engaging in the illegal manufacturing, selling, distribution, or use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics, including fines ranging from PHP20,000 to PHP30,000, imprisonment for six months to one year, cancellation of licenses and business permits, and confiscation of inventory stocks.
