178 NPA firearms 'demilitarized' in Caraga




 In Commemoration of CPP's 55th Anniversary, 178 Surrendered Firearms Demilitarized in Caraga Region"

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) conducted the demilitarization of 178 firearms surrendered by communist rebels. The demilitarization ceremony, led by Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. and PRO-13 Director Gen. Kirby John Kraft, targeted firearms belonging to the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the CPP. These firearms, comprising long and short guns, as well as submachine guns, were voluntarily handed over by insurgents who surrendered in the last three months of the year. The surrendered firearms included 100 from Agusan del Sur, 49 from Surigao del Norte, and 29 from Agusan del Norte. Gen. Kraft emphasized that this demilitarization ensures that these weapons will not be used for criminal or illegal activities, safeguarding the people of Caraga Region. Additionally, a platoon of NPA rebels who recently surrendered in the region was presented to Gen. Acorda, signifying a commitment to peace and withdrawal of support from the terrorist group.
