KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato – The municipal administration in this locality plans to persist in the sale of commercial rice at PHP25 per kilogram for its residents.
Each household is eligible to acquire up to four kilograms of packaged rice to cater to a broader audience.
Mayor Jose Paolo Evangelista, in a Monday interview, affirmed the continuity of the program, emphasizing its focus on assisting low-income families and vulnerable groups grappling with the fluctuating prices of essential food items.
"We are committed to sustaining this initiative, and it will be implemented at the barangay level," Evangelista remarked, highlighting the prioritization of the marginalized sector.
The rice distribution is coordinated alongside various services provided by different city government departments, national line agencies, and utilities.
In the previous year, a total of 30,539 residents from 40 villages purchased four-kilogram packs, amounting to 134,843 kilograms of commercial rice.
Simultaneously, the city has earmarked PHP15 million to bolster food security initiatives, encompassing crop production, fruits, vegetables, inland fisheries, and marketing through buy-back programs, agri-tourism, and digital agriculture.
At present, Kidapawan City stands as the sole local government in North Cotabato consistently vending commercial rice at PHP25 per kilogram. (PNA)
