In Butuan City, the local government unit of Nasipit in Agusan del Norte was awarded a PHP5-million grant from the Department of Agriculture in the Caraga Region (DA-13) through the E-Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita program on Friday.
During the turnover ceremony, DA-13 Executive Director Ricardo Oñate Jr. presented the check to Nasipit Mayor Roscoe Plaza, accompanied by Regional Technical Director for Operations Rebecca Atega.
Oñate emphasized that the issuance of the Kadiwa financial grant is part of the agency's ongoing commitment to enhance the capabilities of the region's commodity suppliers.
The allocated PHP5 million will be directed towards the establishment of a Kadiwa Center in Nasipit, designed to be a reliable source offering quality, safe, and affordable agri-fishery products, as stated by Oñate.
In addition to Nasipit, financial aid was extended to two farmers' organizations. The De Oro Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (DARBECO) in Butuan City received PHP1.165 million, while the Libas Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LIBAS) in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte, was granted PHP1.5 million.
Both DARBECO and LIBAS intend to use the funds to acquire a delivery vehicle, with the latter also allocating a portion for additional working capital.
The E-Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita program represents one of DamA's strategies to support both farmers and consumers through a direct marketing scheme. (PNA)
