UMINGAN, Pangasinan – The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Umingan Community Hospital (UCH), valued at PHP200 million, took place on Thursday, marking the initiation of the first building in the provincial government's township project.
Governor Ramon Guico III expressed pride during the ceremony, stating, “I’m proud to say this is the first township project and of the modernization of our hospitals. To the townspeople of Umingan, let’s claim it, this is already our accomplishment.”
The 55-bed capacity hospital will be erected on a four-hectare land in Barangay Gonzales. The current UCH, with a capacity of 15 beds, is situated in Barangay Poblacion, near the municipal hall, and serves nearly 50 patients.
Governor Guico expressed hope that the construction of the new hospital will be completed within the year. Funding for the project will be sourced partly from the province’s share in the Tobacco Excise Tax, with the remainder from the provincial government’s budget.
The broader township project encompasses the construction of a transport terminal, a modern commercial area, housing, a daycare center, a park, and a social hall.
“It’s a township. It is small but we will make do with the land that we have acquired,” said Guico.
Vice Mayor Chris Evert Tadeo-Leynes highlighted the need for additional services for patients from the existing UCH, which also caters to individuals from neighboring towns of Nueva Vizcaya and Nueva Ecija. She expressed her excitement about the project, emphasizing its long-term impact and increased employment opportunities for the locals.
Umingan, a first-class municipality with 58 villages, looks forward to the positive developments brought about by the new UCH and the broader township project. (PNA)
