TACLOBAN CITY – To accommodate the rising number of tourists in Northern Samar, the provincial government has formally appealed to Philippine Airlines (PAL) to operate flights seven days a week between Manila and Catarman in Northern Samar.
Governor Edwin Ongchuan and PAL officials engaged in discussions on the potential for daily flights from Manila to Catarman during their meeting on January 17, as revealed by the provincial government on Friday.
Governor Ongchuan stated in a press release, “The daily flights will not only provide convenience to travelers but, more significantly, boost the local economy with the opportunity for greater investments and livelihoods from the influx of tourists.”
PAL had previously increased its Manila-Catarman flights to five times a week in September of the previous year. Now, the local government is requesting PAL to extend its services to cover Mondays and Saturdays as well.
Northern Samar boasts several tourist attractions, including the Biri Rock Formation in the island town of Biri, Capul Island, Pink Beach on Sila Island in San Vicente, Lulugayan Falls in Silvino Lubos, Macagtas Dam in Catarman, Canawayon Island in Lapinig, and a natural lagoon in Mapanas. (PNA)
