Legazpi City Aims for 1.2 Million Tourist Arrivals with Vibrant MICE Calendar

LEGAZPI CITY – The Legazpi City Tourism Office (CTO) anticipates a surge in tourist arrivals, targeting 1.2 million for the year, propelled by a diverse lineup of Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) scheduled throughout 2024.

CTO Chief Cristina Agapita Pacres expressed optimism about meeting the set target, citing a series of scheduled MICE events from February to November this year. Among the noteworthy national events are the United Pentecost Church General Conference, Philippine Society of Agriculture and Biosystems Engineers, 39th National Convention of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Private Schools Athletic Association.

Pacres emphasized that the influx of participants in MICE events contributes significantly to the local economy, creating demand for accommodation, catering services, transportation, retail, and various other tourism-related businesses.

Official data for 2022 revealed tourist arrivals reached 291,391, marking a remarkable 197-percent increase from the 98,086 tourists in 2021. Pacres shared that by 2023, they had already surpassed half a million tourist arrivals, with additional data from the last quarter still pending consolidation.

Legazpi Boulevard, offering a breathtaking view of Mayon Volcano across a shimmering lake, remains a top tourist attraction in the city. Visitors not only enjoy the scenic vista of the volcano and explore the surrounding nature park but also savor the unique delicacies and native dishes distinctive to Bicol.

Pacres highlighted that their promotional efforts extend beyond Legazpi City to include neighboring Albay towns and other provinces in the Bicol Region. (PNA)
