In SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) aims to extend support to 15,000 unregistered coconut farmers residing in the mountainous regions of Antique this year.
Gregory Teñoso III, the head of PCA Antique, emphasized the importance of farmers being registered to access PCA assistance in a Friday interview. He reported that as of September 2023, they have successfully registered 30,402 farmers through the National Coconut Farmers Registry System (NCFRS).
Teñoso mentioned that there are 34,200 coconut seed nuts and 12,600 seedlings ready for distribution to registered farmers. Each farmer can avail of up to 143 seedlings for every hectare of their plantation, along with the opportunity to receive fertilizers and technical assistance.
To facilitate the registration process, Teñoso encouraged farmers to coordinate with their Municipal Agriculture Offices, barangay officials, or federations. This allows PCA agriculturists to schedule visits to their respective areas for registration, especially if farmers are unable to personally visit the provincial office in San Jose de Buenavista.
Antique, with 30,367 hectares dedicated to coconut cultivation, is home to 3,044,951 coconut trees. Of these, nearly 1.7 million are in the fruit-bearing stage. (PNA)
