Cebu City's Sinulog Festival Offers Generous Prizes; Mayor Emphasizes Health Precautions
Mayor Michael Rama announced on Wednesday that grand prize winners in both the free interpretation and Sinulog-based dance categories during the Sinulog ritual showdown on Festival Sunday will receive PHP3 million. In addition, 20 contingents will compete for PHP2 million for second place, PHP1.5 million for third place, PHP1 million for fourth place, and PHP750,000 for fifth place.
Rama urged devotees and visitors to observe health protocols during Sinulog Day in Cebu City and advised those who are unwell to avoid large crowds. He also recommended bringing a survival kit, especially for those witnessing the grand parade at the South Road Properties.
To ensure security, over 3,000 personnel from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Coast Guard will be deployed for the Sinulog festivities.
In an effort to prevent traffic congestion like last year's Sinulog day, when the venue was moved from the Cebu City Sports Center to the South Road Properties, the city government has been implementing measures. Clamping operations and public road pay parking managed by a private firm have been suspended following public backlash.
In preparation for the Traslacion of the Holy Child Jesus on Friday, representatives of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, the police, and the military conducted a dry run on Wednesday. The Traslacion precedes the fluvial procession, Solemn Foot Procession, and vespers of the Fiesta Señor scheduled for the weekend.
