BAGUIO CITY – Organizers Extend Invitation to Neighboring Towns for 2024 Panagbenga Festival Participation
The organizers of the annual Baguio Flower Festival have reached out to the nearby towns of La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay (LISTT) to actively take part in the upcoming 2024 Panagbenga festival by hosting events throughout the month-long celebration.
Andrew Pinero, spokesperson and media committee head of the Executive Committee of the Baguio Flower Festival 2024, emphasized the desire for neighboring towns to contribute to the festival's success, providing additional activities and attractions for visitors in Baguio during the flower festival. Pinero highlighted that this initiative aims to broaden the impact of the 28-year-old festival, a significant crowd-puller organized by the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc. (BFFFI).
"Panagbenga is a community activity, and the LISTT towns are integral to the Baguio community. Extending the economic benefits of the festival to them is a fitting endeavor," stated Pinero, noting that visitors often venture beyond Baguio to explore places like La Trinidad for strawberry picking or purchasing fresh highland vegetables at the vegetable trading post.
The BFFFI encourages visitors to explore the diverse attractions of LISTT towns, aside from La Trinidad, showcasing cultural events, nature-related activities, and culinary experiences for tourists. The festival's theme for the year is "Celebrating Culture, Embracing Innovation," with opening events scheduled from Feb. 1-3, and the grand street dance parade set for Feb. 24.
Coined by former mayor Mauricio G. Domogan, Panagbenga is a Kankanaey term meaning "blossoming," aligning with the blossoming of flowers in the city and neighboring towns during the event. The Department of Tourism in the Cordillera estimates that approximately 35,000 tourism-related businesses in Baguio and Benguet benefit from the festival. (PNA)
