Hurricane-rated Garage Doors

As hurricane season approaches, your home becomes your primary defense against the storm. While many people focus on securing windows and doors, they often overlook a critical component—the garage door. During a storm, high winds can cause a standard garage door to collapse, leaving your home exposed to serious damage. If you’ve seen hurricane coverage on the news, you've likely noticed the importance of strong, durable barriers. This is where hurricane-rated garage doors come into play. Designed to withstand extreme weather, these doors provide extra protection for your home, ensuring that your garage remains intact even in the face of severe winds. For homes in Des Moines, where weather conditions can be unpredictable, having a hurricane-rated garage door is essential to ensure the safety of your property.

Iloilo Governor Affirms Support for Farmers Amid El Niño; Introduces Innovative Measures for Assistance

ILOILO CITY – Governor Arthur Defensor assured on Thursday that the provincial government is ready to support Iloilo farmers affected by the El Niño phenomenon.

“We are prepared to provide input assistance sourced from our disaster funds. As part of our measures, given that El Niño results in a reduction of water, we are ready to augment our small-scale irrigation projects, and we have allocated a budget for that,” Defensor stated in a media briefing.

“Instead of offering cash assistance, we are working to secure insurance for eligible farmers so that in case of any impact, they can benefit from the government's insurance policy, which offers more substantial coverage,” he added.

Defensor explained that these measures are outlined in the agriculture and fisheries extension program. One key component is the 2023-2024 Agriculture and Fisheries Mitigation Programs and Rehabilitation Plan, which allocates PHP15 million for Sustainable Insurance from the Government for Upscaling and Revitalizing Agri-fishery Development and Opportunities (SIGURADO).

Farmers registered with the Registry System for the Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) are already assured of insurance. SIGURADO will extend coverage to those not enrolled with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC). The implementation of the SIGURADO program is set to commence this year.

Initial Damages of PHP100 Million

Meanwhile, the Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office is currently validating a report on drought damages from eight municipalities, covering 2,586.30 hectares, with an estimated cost of around PHP100 million.

“We don’t have the exact figure yet because this is a work in progress. The effects of the El Niño are also progressive, so we are waiting for more reports,” said Provincial Agriculturist Ildefonso Toledo in his report to Governor Defensor.

Toledo mentioned that they are also validating reports from the municipalities of Tigbauan, Oton, Tubungan, Anilao, San Enrique, Cabatuan, Barotac Nuevo, and Miag-ao. The preliminary report indicates that 188.21 hectares out of 7,662.73 hectares with standing crops in the eight towns are totally damaged, and 2,398.09 hectares are partially damaged.(PNA)

Grateful Farmers in Laoag City Benefit from Government's Cash-for-Work Program

LAOAG CITY – Farmers in this city express gratitude for the government's cash-for-work initiative, designed to aid farmers affected by calamities and the prevailing dry spell.

On Thursday, 1,152 farmers received their compensation of PHP4,350 each for a 10-day community service, courtesy of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The distribution took place at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena.

Wilson Calaoagan, a corn farmer from Camanggaan village, conveyed his appreciation for the financial assistance, which he plans to use for his family's necessities.

“We cleaned up waterways and helped rehabilitate damaged roads for 10 days last January,” Calaoagan said, expressing hope that this program will continue benefiting marginalized workers, contributing to an increase in their income.

Another farmer, Roy Duldulao from Barangay Navotas-B, emphasized the timeliness of the cash payout, as he needs it for his daughter’s school allowance.

“I have been hearing about the cash-for-work for a long time now. Thank you for the chance; I was able to benefit from it,” he said in Ilokano, the local dialect.

The program, allocated over PHP50 million this year, is funded by the DSWD in collaboration with the Ilocos Norte provincial government. It aims to assist impoverished farmers during times of crisis. A total of 11,673 beneficiaries under the cash-for-work program are set to receive their cash assistance this month. (PNA)

El Niño's Impact: PHP33.7 Million in Damages to Rice and Corn Production in Patnongon, Antique

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The adverse impact of the El Niño phenomenon on rice and corn production in the Municipality of Patnongon, located north of Antique, has resulted in damages amounting to PHP33.7 million.

Bernardita Salvador, the Municipal Agriculture Officer (MAO) of Patnongon, revealed in an interview on Thursday that the damages for the entire month of January included PHP31 million worth of losses from 424.3 hectares of affected rice plantations and PHP2.7 million from 118.25 hectares of corn fields.

Salvador explained, There is no more source of water with the rivers and deep wells drying up. Crops had been damaged." She further noted that the Igpayo and Sibalom rivers, which were once reliable sources of irrigation, could no longer supply sufficient water to the farms.

In addition to the water shortage, Salvador reported receiving information on Wednesday about the presence of the rice black bug (RBB) or rice weevil pest in barangays Igbobon and Amparo.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) with the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) personnel are now validating the report about RBB in the two barangays,” she said.

RBB, a small brown beetle known for attacking rice, especially during dry spells, has affected approximately 2.5 hectares of farmland in both Igbobon and Amparo, according to Salvador.

As part of its intervention, the local government unit (LGU) of Patnongon has allocated PHP800,000 this year to procure rice and corn seeds for distribution to farmers. The priority is given to farmers affected by El Niño, ensuring they have planting materials for the upcoming cropping season. (PNA)

TACLOBAN CITY – Following a skirmish in the upland village of San Isidro, Northern Samar on Wednesday, the Philippine Army successfully apprehended a member of the New People’s Army (NPA), identified as alias Doming.

Doming, affiliated with squad 1 of the sub-regional guerilla unit under the sub-regional committee Emporium of the NPA’s Eastern Visayas regional party committee, had an outstanding arrest warrant for murder issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 20 on Oct. 10, 2015.

According to Lt. Col. Nasser Arojo, the commander of the Army’s 43rd Infantry Battalion (IB), the troops engaged with a group of armed men while conducting an operation in the village. After a brief firefight, the armed men retreated, leaving Doming behind. Subsequently, an M16 rifle and a short magazine were confiscated.

Arojo credited the success of the operation to the timely and relevant information provided by the local residents. In a statement, he emphasized, "This is a clear indication that the community appreciates the efforts of the government and has decided to support the fight to end the local communist armed conflict. Iloilo Governor Assures Support and Innovative Measures for Farmers Amid El Niño Challenges

Iloilo Governor Ensures Support for Farmers Amidst El Niño Impact

Governor Arthur Defensor of Iloilo City affirmed the provincial government's readiness to assist farmers affected by the El Niño phenomenon on Thursday.

We are ready to provide input assistance from our disaster funds. As part of our measures, considering the reduced water availability due to El Niño, we are prepared to enhance our small-scale irrigation projects with allocated budget," stated Defensor during a media briefing.

Rather than offering cash assistance, the governor emphasized the initiative to secure insurance for eligible farmers. This approach ensures that when farmers face losses, they can benefit from the government's comprehensive insurance policy.

Defensor detailed these measures within the agriculture and fisheries extension program, specifically the 2023-2024 Agriculture and Fisheries Mitigation Programs and Rehabilitation Plan. A noteworthy aspect is the allocation of PHP15 million for the Sustainable Insurance from the Government for Upscaling and Revitalizing the Agri-fishery Development and Opportunities (SIGURADO) program.

The SIGURADO program aims to cover farmers not enrolled with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) but listed with the Registry System for the Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA). Implementation is slated to begin this year.

Meanwhile, the Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office is currently validating drought damage reports from eight municipalities, covering 2,586.30 hectares with an estimated cost of approximately PHP100 million. The exact figure is pending, as the effects of El Niño are progressively reported. The municipalities affected include Tigbauan, Oton, Tubungan, Anilao, San Enrique, Cabatuan, Barotac Nuevo, and Miag-ao, with a partial report indicating total and partial damages to standing crops in various areas.(PNA)

The Significance of a Commercial Garage in Business Operations

In the fast-paced world of commerce, businesses rely heavily on efficient and seamless operations to stay competitive. One often overlooked yet crucial aspect of this operational efficiency is the commercial garage. A commercial garage is more than just a space to park company vehicles; it serves as a hub for maintenance, storage, and logistics, playing a pivotal role in the overall success of a business.

Functionality and Versatility:

A commercial garage is a versatile space that caters to a myriad of functions. It provides a secure and sheltered environment for the fleet of company vehicles, protecting them from the elements and potential theft or vandalism. Beyond parking, these garages are equipped to serve as maintenance and repair centers, allowing businesses to conduct routine inspections and repairs on-site, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Storage Solutions:

The importance of storage in business cannot be overstated, and a commercial garage serves as an extension of a company's storage infrastructure. From tools and equipment to spare parts and inventory, these garages offer businesses the space needed to keep essential items organized and easily accessible. This capability contributes to streamlining operations, ensuring that everything is within reach when needed, leading to increased productivity.

Logistics Hub:

Efficient logistics are the backbone of successful business operations, and a commercial garage plays a pivotal role in this regard. With the ability to house a fleet of vehicles, businesses can better manage transportation logistics, ensuring timely deliveries and pick-ups. This centralized location for vehicles also facilitates easier coordination and dispatching, reducing the time and resources spent on organizing transportation schedules.

Cost-Effective Solutions:

Investing in a commercial garage proves to be a cost-effective solution for businesses in the long run. By having a dedicated space for vehicle storage and maintenance, companies can avoid the expenses associated with outsourcing these services. Additionally, the ability to perform in-house maintenance and repairs helps in extending the lifespan of company vehicles, minimizing the need for frequent replacements and reducing overall operational costs.

Employee Convenience and Satisfaction:

A commercial garage doesn't just benefit the business in terms of logistics and cost-effectiveness; it also contributes to employee satisfaction and convenience. Employees tasked with vehicle maintenance or logistics operations appreciate the convenience of having everything they need in one location. This centralized approach not only boosts morale but also contributes to a more efficient and motivated workforce.

Environmental Impact:

In an era where environmental consciousness is paramount, a well-maintained commercial garage can also play a role in reducing a business's carbon footprint. Proper maintenance of vehicles ensures optimal fuel efficiency, contributing to environmental conservation efforts. Additionally, the ability to store and organize inventory within the garage reduces the need for excessive packaging, promoting sustainability.

In conclusion, the commercial garage is a multifaceted asset that goes beyond being a mere parking space for company vehicles. It is a strategic hub that contributes significantly to the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and overall success of a business. From providing storage solutions to serving as a logistics center, the commercial garage is an indispensable element that businesses should prioritize to enhance their operational capabilities in today's competitive landscape.

Heavy Rains Prompt Suspension of Sea Travel and Classes in Caraga Region and Davao

BUTUAN CITY – Ongoing heavy rains caused by the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) have led authorities and local government units (LGUs) in the Caraga region to suspend sea travel and school classes at all levels.

As of Wednesday morning, sea travel for vessels with gross tonnages below 150, operating routes from Surigao del Norte to Dinagat Islands and other areas, remains suspended.

Similarly, sea travel for vessels with tonnages below 250 to Siargao Island is also on hold due to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon.

This decision comes as most LGUs in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur have already suspended classes in both public and private schools since Tuesday due to heavy rainfall.

San Miguel Mayor Michael Corilla reported an increase in water levels with a red warning signal in the riverine system of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, causing significant flooding in some barangays. Close monitoring activities are underway, especially in river systems, as water levels started rising since Tuesday.

Residents in low-lying areas prone to flooding and landslides in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur are advised to remain vigilant and be prepared for evacuation.

DAVAO REGION SUSPENDS WORK, CLASSES

Meanwhile, various LGUs in the Davao region have also suspended classes and work due to the trough affecting Northern and Southern Mindanao.

The provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao Occidental issued separate orders declaring the suspension of classes and work early Wednesday for the safety of residents.

In Davao City, Mayor Sebastian Duterte declared the suspension of classes in all levels of public and private schools, implementing a work-from-home (WFH) arrangement in all national and local government offices, including government-owned and controlled corporations. The order excludes offices performing safety and security, health and social services, and disaster and emergency response services.

In Davao Oriental, at least 10 municipalities and Mati City collectively suspended classes and government and private offices. The towns include Banaybanay, Lupon, San Isidro, Governor Generoso, Tarragona, Manay, Caraga, Banganga, Cateel, and Boston.

In Davao del Sur, municipalities that declared the suspension of both work and classes include Matanao, Malalag, Bansalan, Sulop, Magsaysay, Sta. Cruz, Padada, Kiblawan, and Hagonoy. Digos City Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas also ordered a WFH arrangement in all local and national government offices. (PNA)

Governor Demerey expressed commitment to supporting various sectors in Dinagat through sustainable projects under the Remedy for Livelihood program and interventions. Public Vigilance Elevates Success in Iloilo's Anti-Drug Campaign: RPDEU Recognized for Notable Operation

ILOILO CITY – Public Cooperation Enhances Anti-Drug Operations in Iloilo and Western Visayas

The fight against illegal drugs in Iloilo and the broader Western Visayas region is gaining momentum with increased public involvement, according to Capt. Glen Soliman, team leader of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) at the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6). In a statement on Wednesday, Soliman emphasized the importance of information provided by vigilant citizens, noting a shift from previous fears to a willingness to assist authorities.

As part of the recognition of outstanding achievements, RPDEU was among the police units honored with the Medalya ng Kadakilaan during the 33rd Philippine National Police Foundation Day at Camp Crame on Monday. The accolade was presented by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the guest of honor, alongside Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. and PNP Chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.

The RPDEU's notable success was highlighted in a recent operation resulting in the arrest of a high-value individual and the seizure of approximately six kilograms of shabu valued at PHP40.8 million in Janiuay, Iloilo, on Dec. 17 last year.

Captain Soliman stressed the continuous need for vigilance, stating that as long as there are consumers and a supply source, attempts to smuggle illegal substances into Iloilo persist. He clarified that those apprehended in various operations are not organized groups but rather facilitators trusted by their sources, exemplified in the Janiuay operation where they were responsible for distribution.

Expressing gratitude for the unit's recognition, Soliman noted that such accolades boost the morale of their team, inspiring them to redouble their efforts in the ongoing fight against drug-related crimes. (PNA)

Escuro mentioned that the recipients of cash relief assistance primarily consisted of solo parents, indigents, farmers, fisherfolk, and persons with disabilities.

The beneficiaries hailed from the provinces of Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Albay, Sorsogon, and Camarines Sur," she added.

She highlighted that the amount disbursed to each beneficiary ranged from PHP2,000 to PHP5,000, depending on the assessment conducted by social workers during the interview and processing.
