BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) initiated the disbursement of the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens Program (SocPen) for the current year on Tuesday.
In a statement released on Wednesday, DSWD-13 reported that a total of 3,351 indigent senior citizens from the towns of Malimono and San Francisco in Surigao del Norte received their first-semester SocPen through a series of payouts conducted on Jan. 30.
This release encompasses the pension provision for indigent senior citizens for the first semester of 2024.
DSWD-13 specified that each beneficiary received PHP1,000 per month, in accordance with Republic Act (RA) 11916 under the SocPen program. RA 11916, signed into law on July 30, 2022, mandates an increase in the social pension for indigent senior citizens nationwide.
Senior citizens in the region were encouraged by DSWD-13 to coordinate with their respective Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs for information regarding the schedule of SocPen payouts. (PNA)
