PhilTower to Enhance Connectivity: Over 100 Common Cell Sites Set for Construction in Northern Samar

 TACLOBAN CITY –

PhilTower Consortium Inc., the Philippines' premier digital shared infrastructure provider, is set to construct more than 100 common cell sites in Northern Samar this year, a move aimed at bolstering connectivity throughout the province, as announced by the local government on Thursday.

In a meeting with Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan, officials from PhilTower discussed their collaborative plans for building cell sites designed to be shared by multiple mobile operators.

Expressing gratitude to PhilTower for considering an investment in Northern Samar, Governor Ongchuan acknowledged the assistance provided by the Board of Investments in facilitating the venture.

Operating under its common tower policy, PhilTower emphasizes the use of passive infrastructure, such as cell site towers, which can host equipment from various operators. This approach significantly reduces capital expenditure, accelerates network rollout, and ensures more efficient and accessible services for a larger population.

Kalvin Laurence Antonio Parpan, Director for External Affairs at PhilTower, emphasized the company's steadfast commitment to the government's vision of establishing a world-class digital infrastructure nationwide.

In March, a PhilTower team will conduct an ocular inspection in the province, collaborating with local planning and development coordinators to identify suitable tower locations aligned with land use plans.

Having already established towers throughout Luzon, PhilTower's structures range from 30 to 50 meters in height, including ground-based, rooftop, and street furniture microcell pole solutions that seamlessly blend into residential areas, minimizing physical footprints.

Registered as a common tower provider in the Philippines, PhilTower focuses on building shared telecommunications structures and facilities, utilizing forward-thinking digital infrastructure marked by cutting-edge innovation and energy efficiency.

The company aims to construct 8,023 tailor-made towers in underserved and unserved locations across the Philippines.

Governor Ongchuan highlighted the potential positive impacts of improved telecommunications services, better livelihood opportunities, enhanced access to government online services, and contributions to poverty eradication in Northern Samar, ultimately addressing the root causes of insurgency.

Northern Samar, one of the three Samar provinces, comprises 24 towns and has a population of 639,186. (PNA)
