ILOILO CITY –
Consumers served by More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE POWER) will experience a 10-centavo increase in their January billing cycle, attributed to a rise in the transmission charge.
MORE Power explained in a statement on Monday that the increase is solely due to the additional ancillary service charge imposed by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The purpose is to maintain the reliability of the electricity grid and ensure system balance, allowing for a swift recovery in the event of power system disturbances.
In response to the 19 percent hike in the transmission charge, the distribution utility will pass on an additional 10 centavos per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to consumers. Consequently, the billing for January will amount to PHP10.321 per kWh, compared to the PHP10.2259 per kWh during the December 2023 billing cycle.
Despite the transmission charge increase, the generation charge has decreased, while the distribution system and metering rate remain unchanged.
During a press conference on Monday, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas mentioned that he was informed about NGCP implementing brownouts and blackouts earlier to prevent power interruptions during the Dinagyang Festival.
"We'll take their word for that; otherwise, we will be seeing them again," he remarked.
The weeklong events of the festival commenced on Monday, with the highlights scheduled for January 27-28. (PNA)
